Asian Association of School Human Resource Management and Development Practitioners, Inc. (AASHPI) has been setting exemplary standards in the practice of Human Resource Management and Development in the academe for twenty years. AASHPI has been committed in enhancing and advancing the science, art, and best practices in HRMD in the country for greater institutional effectiveness and efficiency. As it celebrates its 20th year, AASHPI is accepting research papers that will be presented during its 20th National Convention, with the theme "Building People: Leading the Future".  The convention will be held on August 28 - 30, 2019 at Tagaytay City. It aims to provide a venue for presentation and discussion of research outputs in different fields of interests that contribute to knowledge and debate on theoretical, methodological and practical approaches to the study of human resources or talent management. It may be in the form of comparative studies, theoretical, empirical investigations, and similar researches.   Scope of Sub-Themes Individual paper presentation shall range from the following sub-themes focused on human resource management in educational institutions.   Leadership and Governance:         Policy Development, Planning, and Training and Development in the Workplace     Innovation:                                          HR Innovations, Technology and Industrial Revolution 4.0   Mental Health:                                    Occupational Health, Safety, and Well-being in the Workplace   Education:                                          Teaching Human Resource Management    Submission of Abstracts Abstract should not exceed 200 words and must briefly mention the objective, methodology, results, significant new findings, conclusion(s) and recommendation(s). These should be typed single-spaced with font type Arial and font size 12. Please include no more than 5 keywords. The abstract should be accompanied by the title of the paper, author(s)' name, institutional affiliation and e-mail address of the corresponding author.   Guidelines on Full Paper Submission and Presentation 1. Papers invited on any of the topics for oral poster presentation must not have been previously published and must not be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submitted papers will be reviewed for adherence to established rules, scientific content, and presentation by the Screening Committee. 2. Papers will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Main focus of research Quality of research Significance Content of the paper Adherence to the submission criteria 3. The final paper should contain the following sections: Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion and Recommendations, Acknowledgements (if any) and Literature Cited. The paper should not exceed 8,000 words. 4. Final papers should be submitted electronically in MS Word to the Proceedings Committee via This email address is being protected from spambots. An email will also be sent upon acceptance of non-acceptance of the paper for oral or poster presentation. An acknowledgment email will be sent to te corresponding author upon receipt of the abstract and final paper. 6. Each paper presenter shall be given 15-minute duration plus five (5) minutes for questions and discussions.    Special Awards and Publication 1. The Screening Committee will select ten papers for the competition: five (5) papers for oral presentation, and five (5) papers for poster presentation. The screening and selection shall be done through a double-blind review system. 2. Special awards shall be conferred for Best Oral Paper Presentation and Best Poster Presentation. The evaluator's decision shall be final and unappealable. 3. All presenters will receive a certificate of presentation. 4. All accepted papers may have the chance to be published in a refereed journal. The author/s shall be notified for any concerns and clarifications regarding the submitted paper. 5. Upon submission and acceptance of the paper, the author/s accept/s that AASHPI reserves the right to edit and/or reformat the research entries for publication upon recommendation of the peer reviewers and research committee. 6. The Senate Bill (S.B.) 1826 entitled “An Act Strengthening Workers Right to Security of Tenure” was certified as urgent by President Rodrigo Duterte last 21st of September 2018. This is to eradicate "contractualization" and labor-only contracting practices in the country” – the major cause of the increasing unemployment rate and the persistence of poverty in the country.  As an organization that advocates on the emerging issues and concerns that affect the academe, AASHPI together with its partner, Estrada & Aquino Law through its Managing Partner, Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada, lobbied for recognition in the ENDO Bill the special nature of employment of academic personnel, and the preservation of the applicable terms and conditions provided under existing special education laws and policies. Last January 30, 2019, a meeting to clarify the terms of employment of teachers at the office of Senator Joel Villanueva took place. AASHPI Executive Director, Ms. Jocelyn P. Tizon and AASHPI President, Dr. Susan T. Mostajo together with other AASHPI officers - Dr. B’julah Silva, Dr. Salvador Tumaca, Ms. Luz Arlyn S. Chavez and Ms. Ami Salanguit - met with Atty. Estrada and the legal staff of Senator Villanueva – Atty. Simoun Salinas and Atty. Earla Langit. Other relevant issues in the academe were also discussed. On the same day, AASHPI signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Estrada and Aquino Law. Together, with Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada, AASHPI will pursue its mission in making a stand on relevant human resource issues affecting schools.

In this tight labor market, it is very important for employers to know how to retain its top talents and how to make them want to stay!In the study conducted by West Monroe Partners (2018), a multinational management and technology consulting firm in the US, with 2,000 full-time employees as respondents, eighty-two (82) percent have a high sense of loyalty to the organization.However, the study also showed that: This is a bad news for employers! This is a big drain for the company as they have already spent its resources and time training its employees only to have them leave after.The study further showed that: Why is this so? One of the top reasons is the LACK OF PROFESSIONAL GROWTH. Large companies, compared to smaller ones, have already established its wide array of career paths, thus, allowing them to provide the kind of professional growth their employees would want.Smaller companies, on the other hand, are still developing and have less clear career-paths for their employees.  What to do then? 1. Employers can start by asking the employees if they can see themselves grow professionally and personally in the organization. Ask if they can also see themselves staying in the company for more than five (5) years.If majority answers no, encourage them to explore other opportunities and interests within the organization.According to the study, seventy (70) percent of the respondents have had some level of comfort with switching to a new role or department within their current company.2. Provide employees with the right technology to free up their time for more meaningful and engaging work projects. However, it is also important to ensure that they receive the necessary training to use these tools.  3. Look back and create innovative programs that will encourage your employees to stay. Employees need to feel supported in other areas of their lives to make them feel motivated and grow. TOP REASONS FOR STAYING IN A COMPANY Every organization needs to know its employees in order to know the reasons why they leave and stay. This is so you can effectively implement measures that will motivate them to stay in the long run.
